When projection mapping became a hype, the words refer to the play of mapping light projection to another (usually non-flat) surface, most commonly seen on building facades, sometimes on sands, sometimes even on natural rocks.

With this work, we take the title as seriously as it is unrelated to that particular play.

Koji, as a Map Artist with a unique talent in deeply understanding the 3 dimensionality of 2D maps, meticulously draws out the landscape of the Mt. Fuji area, and mapping the 'names' of the places onto the landscapes, receiving all the peaks and troughs , creases and wrinkles of nature. The simple act of naming is a projection. A projection of someone-at-some-point-in-time's memories or wishes for a place. The name of Fuji 富士, for example, has been projected as follow:

プロジェクションマッピングが流行したとき、この言葉は、光の投影を別の（通常は平らでない）面にマッピングする行動を指し、ビルのファサードで最もよく見られ、時には砂の上、自然の岩の上にさえ見られます。

この作品では、その特定の行動とは関係なく、タイトルを真に受けています。

地図作家として、2次元の地図の3次元性を深く理解し、富士山周辺の風景を丹念に描き出し、自然の山や谷、皺をすべて受け取りながら、その風景に地名をマッピングしていくのです。

名前をつけるという単純な行為は、投影なのです。ある時点の誰かの、その場所に対する記憶や願いが投影されているのである。例えば、富士山の名前は次のように投影されてきた。

「富士山についての最も古い記録は『常陸国風土記』における「福慈岳」という語であると言われている。他にも多くの呼称が存在し、不二山もしくは不尽山と表記する古文献もある。また、『竹取物語』における伝説もある。「フジ」という長い山の斜面を表す大和言葉から転じて富士山と称されたという説もある。近代以降の語源説としては、宣教師バチェラーは、名前は「火を噴く山」を意味するアイヌ語の「フンチヌプリ」に由来するとの説を提示した。しかし、これは囲炉裏の中に鎮座する火の姥神を表す「アペフチカムイ」からきた誤解であるとの反論がある。その他の語源説として、マレー語説、マオリ語説^[6]、原ポリネシア語説がある。

明確に「富士山」と表記される過程においては駿河国に由来するとするものがあり^[7]、記録としては都良香の『富士山記』に「山を富士と名づくるは、郡の名に取れるなり」とある。
