If you want to book a FUUUN Experience you must have an International Driving Permit (IDP). An IDP allows you to legally drive in many countries, including Japan. Here’s a quick guide to help you through the application process and on the road.
1. Check your eligibility
To apply for an IDP in Hong Kong, you must hold a valid Hong Kong Identity Card and have a full Hong Kong driving licence (expired for no more than 3 years). Probationary driving licence holders are not eligible.
2. Know the validity
The IDP is valid for one year from the issue date. You can apply for a new one anytime, even before the old one expires.
3. Choose your application method
- Online: For "iAM Smart+" users or eligible applicants holding a valid personal digital certificate. Follow the instructions on this GovHK web page.
- In Person: You can make an appointment online here or by phone (Tel: 3763 8080), or obtain a same-day queue ticket on site at a Licensing Office.
- Self-service Kiosk: For "iAM Smart+" users only. Make an appointment online here, then visit the Hong Kong Licensing Office or the Kowloon Licensing Office at the scheduled time.
- By Post: Mail your application to the Transport Department Kwun Tong Licensing Office, P.O. Box 68115, Kowloon East Post Office, Kowloon.
4. Prepare the required documents
- Online: an image file of a recent passport-sized photograph, a file of address proof
- Kiosk: a mobile device that can log in to "iAM Smart+" and receive SMS or email, address proof (original/copy)
- In Person & By Post: a completed “Application for International Driving Permit TD51” form, Hong Kong Identity Card (original/copy), two recent passport-sized photographs, address proof (original/copy)
5. Pay the application fee (HK$80)
- Online & Self-service Kiosk: Credit card, FPS, PPS
- In Person: Cash, FPS, EPS, crossed cheque payable to "The Government of the HKSAR"
- By Post: Crossed cheque only
6. Wait for your IDP to arrive
- Online & By Post: Mailed within 10 working days if the submitted documents are all in order
- In Person & Kiosk: Issued on the same day
