Welcome, to Myoko Suginohara.
Not just one of Myoko's many resorts, but arguably The Myoko family ski resort. With slopes and routes fit for all skill levels, no one will be left bored by the terrain. Located in the heart of the legendary Myoko region, Suginohara is famous for the sheer scale of its peaks and the exceptional quality of its snow. It’s an ideal choice for a family trip, a romantic couples' getaway, or a solo escape for the very best Japow.
Why is Suginohara a Family Paradise?
The Suginohara face of Myoko seems like it's custom built for the growth of a skier. The resort’s vast, wide-open lower slopes in the Mitahara Zone are the perfect training ground for children and beginners; intermediate skiers jump at the chance to ski the top to bottom of mountain Mt. Myoko descent run for some serious and slightly more challenging carving opportunities. Advanced skiers aren't left out either; Suginohara is the highest lifted area in the Myoko region boasting 20% black runs that include the 38° Super Giant Course, on top of ample off piste japow adventures.
Annual 14 meter snowfall means that everyone in the family's skill level is catered to. This variety of groomers, from beginner to expert alongside back and side country skiing that may only be rivalled by neighbouring Seki Onsen (a short bus ride away for the powder hounds amongst us!) means that everyone is kept happy.
Suginohara Lessons and Ski Passes
For advanced older siblings and parents, Suginohara's local snowsports schools are abundant. Myoko Snowsports has both private and group lessons available, so that the younger crowd can learn the ropes, whilst older more competent family members can enjoy the mountain at its best before reconvening in the afternoon. Crucially, Suginohara offers unmatched value for families, providing free lift tickets for children aged 12 years old and under. Lift tickets for the grown ups aren't exactly expensive either. Adult multi-day tickets are priced around ¥13,000.
In short:
- Free lift passes for children 12 and under
- Cheap lift passes for the rest of the family
- Slopes appropriate for the whole family
- Ample provision of lessons
Things To Do in Suginohara?
A welcome contrast to its northern counterparts Niseko and Hakuba, Myoko and Suginohara specifically are better known for peaceful authentic Japanese atmosphere than they are for their nightlife. Making it the perfect setting for families, couples wanting a quieter getaway, and solo travellers who prefer skiing unimpeded by a chu-hi induced hangover.
Places to eat in Suginohara
However, this quieter environment doesn't mean you're short on dining options or things to do. Suginosawa village is full of Japanese shokudo (cafeterias) and western options like Two Pines Pizza and The Den restaurant and bar.
SLEEEP Myoko also comes equipped with its very own onsen facilities to soak away any aches and pains picked up on the slopes. There are of course a few options for the older crowd to enjoy their evenings, but nearby Akakura Onsen is better known for that than Suginohara.
Despite this selection of fine establishments, guests of SLEEEP Myoko have an alternative if nothing on the local menus takes their fancy. Our focus on co-living includes excellent self-catering and communal spaces. Imagine preparing a meal with fresh local ingredients and enjoying it with fellow travellers, or participating in a planned community event; Christmas, New Years, LNY, and local festivals alike are all to be celebrated with the community - without the overpriced bar price or overpacked venue!
So, come here if you prefer:
- Skiing the powder bowl without a hangover
- Quieter stays rather than party towns
- Family friendly activities
- A chance to meet and integrate with a real community
